Lake Simcoe

Lake Simcoe was formed by glacial melting water and is southern Ontario’s largest interior lake. It boasts dimensions of 48 km by length, 29 km by width, and 136 ft by depth. Its east and west sides are bordered by eskers (coarse gravel ridges) and shores are drumlin hills formed by a mixture of granite, sand, and gravel deposits left by the retreating glaciers. The lake is bordered by Simcoe County, Durham Region, and York Region. The city of Barrie is west of Lagoon City, as the crow flies, and is located on Kempenfelt Bay. Orillia is located at the entrance to Lake Couchiching. Lagoon City is in the Township of Ramara in Simcoe County.
